'The Kingdom' and 'Friday Night Lights' director Peter Berg has been linked to a new film which is being planned as a starring vehicle for Tom Cruise.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Columbia Pictures is keen to have Berg behind the lens for the spy drama, Edwin A Salt, which the studio wants in production by March.
The film tells the story of a CIA officer who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy and must go on the run in his bid to prove his innocence.
Berg has yet to start negotiations with Columbia Pictures.
